s far as I know, the Wildpark Eekholt is the only zoo in Germany (maybe in whole Europe) who breeds white red deer. So that might explain why so few people have seen white deer.

Jup. He's definately lucky to life in a zoo. But in Germany, i guess, he wouldn't be shot at all because trophy hunting isn't a big deal here and many hunters are still afraid because of the legend of Saint Hubertus.
Little fact: This stag is not an albino but leucistic.

Unfortunately in the UK poaching is a real issue, if a senior stag is spotted and it becomes public knowledge, within weeks the carcass is found sans head, very sad. Thankyou for mentioning St Hubertus, (I admit to looking him up) most interesting, and stand corrected about leucistic conditions I didn't know that.

That's sad to hear. I didn't know that poaching was a problem in the UK. :(

If you are in the area it is known about but rarely does it go national or mainstream, most folk are more interested in X factor, soap operas, and the like; sad fact that the heads are destined to end up abroad U.S. and Far East. The majority of the UK dont know a thing about OUR countryside or how it works, schoolchildren recently were shown a group of 7 raw veg most could identify and name  2, milk comes from a bottle and cows are dirty. ............. But their parents can tell us how to live out here in the sticks??
Is it the same over with you?

I guess the estrangement concerning nature is a problem in the whole western world. Sadly.
